A new Hansard Society website (www.democracyseries.org.uk)
launched April 18, 2006 is hosting a moderated online discussion forum on
crucial issues facing democracy today.
The website forms an integral
part of the debate raised by a new series of challenging pamphlets addressing
fundamental concerns about the future of democratic politics at home and
abroad. The Democracy Series covers pertinent topics ranging from
Islam and democracy to the future of the British constitution.
The Democracy Series
adopts an accessible and engaging format to shed new light on fundamental
questions in British and global democracy. Each pamphlet contains a principal
essay accompanied by critical commentaries from experts in the field. But the
debate is not confined to specialists - the accompanying website (www.democracyseries.org.uk) picks
up on the issues raised in each pamphlet and opens the discussion to everyone.
All of the Democracy Series pamphlets can be downloaded free at www.democracyseries.org.uk where
anyone with an interest in the future of democracy is encouraged to join the
debate.
The first Democracy Series
pamphlet Democracy and Islam is published May 9, 2006 at a major
evening reception in central London
attended by the authors, MPs and peers, academics and journalists and a
minister from the Department for Constitutional Affairs. Register now to take
part in the online forum debate at www.democracyseries.org.uk
and your name will be entered in a draw to receive an invitation to the May 9
launch event.
