Democracy Forum: Coalition government - lessons from Holyrood

Tuesday 29 June, 6.30pm, House of Commons, Westminster.

Speakers: Henry McLeish (Former Scottish First Minister, Labour MSP and MP), Joyce McMillan (Scotsman)

The new coalition government in Westminster is just finding its feet, having formed after the first hung Parliament in the UK for over 30 years. Most involved are new to coalition politics, but it is not unusual in other parts of the UK's democracy. The Scottish Parliament in Holyrood has been working with a coalition and minority government since 1999. At this Democracy Forum we will discuss what lessons Westminster can learn from Holyrood, not only regarding the workings of a coalition Government, but also how Parliament can best work with a coalition Government; and if successful how it may change the political landscape at Westminster.
