TTIP Summit, Leeds

The Transatlantic Trade & Investment Partnership: beneficial to our economy or a threat to our democracy?

Albert Room, Leeds Town Hall, The Headrow, Leeds LS1 3AD

You are invited to join us at the TTIP Summit to discuss the biggest free trade negotiations in history and their implications for the future of people in Yorkshire and across the country.

Please register here

Speakers:

  • Richard Corbett MEP – MEP for Yorkshire and the Humber and Deputy Leader of the Labour MEPs
  • Sam Lowe – Campaigner, Friends of the Earth
  • Elisabeth Roderburg – TTIP Adviser, BritishAmerican Business
  • Alex Scrivener – Policy Officer, Global Justice Now
  • Michael Strawson – Senior Associate, Chamber International (West & North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce)

We’ll be:

  • Separating fact from fiction: critics of TTIP say it will open the door to privatisation of the NHS and reduce regulatory standards in areas such as banking and food. But what’s myth and what’s reality? And what difference will it make for local jobs, business and public services?
  • Exploring what citizens think about TTIP: through new research by YouGov into public attitudes to the free trade principles underpinning the negotiations.
  • Considering future democratic engagement: including the timetable for the next stage negotiations, opportunities for business and civil society contributions, and looking at the role our Parliaments will play in the process.

This event is free to attend but you must register here.
